Google’s Pixel Lite has a tough market share in the US, but Google needs more customers to control Android’s direction.
Google recently launched Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones, which come with new features of AI and digital photography. Along with a better product, Google also needs a better way to market it.
The zoom capability of the Pixel phones takes a step towards the versatility of all the traditional cameras available on the market. The guided frame gives voice prompts for visually impaired people to take selfies. You can choose emoji using your voice.
According to analytics firm Statcounter, Pixel phones account for just over 2% of the smartphone market in the US.
Samsung now holds about 30% stake in the US and Apple now has a majority stake in the US for the first time since 2010.
The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are priced at $599 and $899, respectively. The G is effectively the same as last year’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Both the new Pixels share the same overall look Google brought with the Pixel 6 last year.
The Pixel 7 comes in Obsidian, Snow, and Lemongrass colors, and the Pixel 7 Pro in Obsidian, Snow, and Hazel.
The color and finish are a bit unsatisfying compared to last year’s Pixel. Polish aluminum is used in the Pro model and the standard Pixel has a matte finish.
Some changes have been made in the new Pixel smartphone such as the Pixel 7 with a 6.3-inch screen is slightly smaller and lighter than the Pixel 6. The screen of the Pixel 7 Pro is 6.7 inches and the display glass is curved at the edges.
Google says that they have changed the brightness of the phone’s screen, which provides up to 25 percent brightness when the screen is outside (1,400 nits peak brightness).
No major changes have been made regarding the battery in both of these Google Pixel phones. Google Pixel 7 has a 4355 mAh cell and Google Pixel 7 Pro has a 5000 mAh battery. Both are expected to run for 24 hours, like the Google Pixel 6.
The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones have an in-display fingerprint sensor, but it’s not the only way to unlock the phone. It also has a face unlock system. Since it’s not using an array of 3D sensors like Apple’s, Google’s solution isn’t as secure.
Google Pixel phones are known for high-quality cameras, but it’s hard to say how much better the Pixel 7 series cameras are than their predecessors without trying them out.
Both Google Pixel phones have a 50-megapixel camera and the Pixel 7 has the same ultrawide lens. But some changes have been made in the other two cameras of Pixel 7 Pro. It has a 48-megapixel telephoto camera that can now do 4x to 5x optical zoom and has wider view chatter at ultrawide.
The smartphone also comes with an autofocus feature that helps power the new macro focus mode for taking better pictures of objects.
For low-light selfies, both phones have a 10.8-megapixel front camera. A powerful Acer G2 chipset in these Pixel smartphones (more on this later) allows for faster Night Sight photos, so you should expect better and less blurry shots, even in low light.
These Pixels will continue to receive security updates for five years. Google Pixel 7 and Google Pixel 7 Pro will be available for sale from October 13, 2022
